On January 12th the time had come!
The 2020 icewine vintage-year was very modest. Only a few icewines were produced because the freezing weather came late. At the HAFNER winery, there was also a feast: it was our first ice wine made from the traditional sweet wine variety Furmint harvested! A unique rarity worldwide! Furmint is used in famous sweet wines in Tokaj, Hungary, but it's new and unique for an Icewine! Harvested by hand, four months after the regular harvest period, on the first frosty night with a temperature as low as -7°D! A delicate nose of ripe apples and peaches, paired with the typical touch of frost and ice.
An easy-going wine with a complex and balanced body. A successful balance of sweetness and acidity makes it an interesting dining companion to desserts, especially fruit cakes aso.
Icewine, Prädikatswein, L-N16340/21 Burgenland, Austrian wine, contains sulfites. Bottled June 7, 2021
