ICE WINE Furmint 2020 - Icewine
On January 12th the time had come!
The 2020 ice wine year was very modest. Only a few ice wines were produced this vintage. At the HAFNER winery, there was also a first: our first ice wine made from the traditional sweet wine variety Furmint was harvested! A unique rarity worldwide! Furmint is used in famous sweet wines in Tokaj, Hungary, but it's a first for ice wine! Harvested by hand, four months after the regular harvest date, on the first night of frost at suitable temperatures below -8°C on January 12, 2021.
Very nice complexity! A delicate nose of ripe apples and peaches, paired with the typical touch of frost and ice. A drinkable wine with a complex and balanced body. A successful interplay of sweetness and acidity makes it an interesting accompaniment to desserts, especially fruit cakes, etc.
